KGC Ginseng Corporation announced on the 15th that it has opened a research and development (R&D) center in Fullerton, near Los Angeles, USA. This is the second overseas center following the Shanghai R&D center in China.
The US R&D center is composed of product, development, and support teams, thoroughly managing not only new brand development but also the processes and quality of locally produced products. Through the support team, clinical research related to the functionalities of red ginseng, such as immune enhancement, fatigue improvement, and memory enhancement, will be promoted within the US, alongside collecting market information on global health functional food ingredients. While advancing local efficacy research and raw material standardization, the center plans to accelerate the development of locally customized products that incorporate ingredients and functionalities preferred in the US market. Additionally, it envisions actively entering the functional beverage market in the US and expanding its global reach from the US base to North and Central America as well as Latin America.
KGC Ginseng Corporation entered the US market early by establishing an overseas branch in California in 2003. The US corporation has recorded an average annual growth rate of 15% over the past five years since 2018. The company plans to continue its growth by expanding large distribution channels such as Costco and extending brands and products targeting local liquor customers.
Moreover, through the locally tailored health functional food brand Core Select, the company is expanding its reach into online markets such as Amazon, eBay, and iHerb. The existing brand portfolio, which exported domestic products as they were, will also be diversified and expanded into products with capsules, tablets, gummy jellies, and various functional ingredients reflecting local preferences.
Heo Cheol-ho, CEO of KGC Ginseng Corporation, stated, "The US R&D center will contribute not only to strengthening the development of locally customized products but also to establishing local production infrastructure."
