Donations Delivered to Turkish Relief Organizations via Community Chest of Korea
On the afternoon of the 15th, Busan City will hold a 'Donation Ceremony for Earthquake Relief in T?rkiye' at the Protocol Room on the 7th floor of Busan City Hall.
Attendees at the special donation ceremony will include Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Park Ki-nam, President of the Busan City Daycare Center Association, Moon Woo-taek, President of the Busan Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, Lee Imun, Vice Chairman of Korea Steel, and Choi Geum-sik, Chairman of the Busan Community Chest of Korea.
First, at 4 p.m. on the 15th, the Busan City Daycare Center Association will deliver a special donation of approximately 124 million KRW to the Busan Community Chest of Korea.
The funds were raised through voluntary participation such as coin collections by daycare centers, families, directors, and childcare staff affiliated with the Daycare Center Association, expressing condolences and support for the victims of the earthquake. The total amount collected from February 13 to March 3, approximately 120 million KRW, will be donated.
Next, at 4:20 p.m., the Busan Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, a representative organization of Busan’s elderly, will generously donate a special fund of about 83 million KRW to help T?rkiye, which suffered from the earthquake.
Upon hearing the unexpected news of the T?rkiye earthquake, the federation conducted a fundraising campaign from February 20 to March 6 to assist the brotherly nation that supported Korea during the Korean War. This campaign led to voluntary participation from members of 2,368 senior centers under 16 district and county branches.
In particular, the elderly generation who directly experienced the pain of the Korean War over 70 years ago actively joined together, contributing bit by bit upon hearing the devastating disaster in T?rkiye.
Finally, at 4:40 p.m., Korea Steel will deliver a special donation of 100 million KRW to help the people of T?rkiye affected by the earthquake.
Korea Steel has continuously engaged in various social contribution activities, including an annual donation of 100 million KRW for helping neighbors in need, as well as donating 100 million KRW each for relief efforts during Typhoon Hinnamnor and the East Coast wildfires in 2022.
The total donation of over 300 million KRW from these three sources will be delivered to relief organizations in T?rkiye through the Busan Community Chest of Korea and will be used to support earthquake recovery and aid for refugees.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun expressed, “We deeply regret the unexpected T?rkiye earthquake and, to help the people of T?rkiye who suffered great damage, Busan City, along with the elderly, children, childcare staff, and local businesses, will stand in solidarity for recovery efforts. We hope this donation will bring some comfort to the victims struggling in T?rkiye.”
Choi Geum-sik, Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, said, “We will carefully deliver the precious donations collected by the Busan Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, a respected group working for a healthy local community, the Daycare Center Association supporting the dreams of children who are the future of Busan, and Korea Steel, which consistently carries out social contribution activities, to the earthquake-affected areas that have lost their homes.”
