Geumcheon-gu Provides Customized Home Repair Support for Low-Income Disabled Individuals

Geumcheon-gu Provides Customized Home Repair Support for Low-Income Disabled Individuals

Apply by visiting the local community service center by March 31

Support for installation of convenience facilities such as bathroom remodeling, threshold removal, ramps, and handrails

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will implement the ‘Low-Income Disabled Housing Convenience Support Project’ which provides home repair services to low-income disabled individuals.

The Low-Income Disabled Housing Convenience Support Project aims to improve the quality of life by providing a convenient and safe living environment through customized spatial welfare support tailored to the characteristics of disabilities for disabled people who experience difficulties in daily life and activities inside and outside the home.

The support targets low-income households including basic livelihood security recipients or near-poverty households (below 50% of median income) among disabled residents of Seoul, as well as low-income households with median income between 50% and 65%. However, for rental households, the homeowner must grant permission for construction and agree to residence for more than one year.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the local community service center by March 31. If selected, recipients will receive customized housing environment improvements considering the type of disability, including bathroom remodeling, threshold removal, ramps, handrails, installation of convenience facilities such as fire detectors, and energy-efficient construction.

After document screening, on-site investigation, and expert review, households will be selected in May by comprehensively considering disability type and severity, income level, and urgency of housing environment improvement. Contracts with construction companies and construction will be carried out between July and October.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope that customized home repair support will alleviate some of the inconveniences faced by disabled people in daily life,” and added, “We will continue to provide generous support to offer a safe and comfortable living environment.”

Dobong-gu saves socially isolated middle-aged single residents at risk of lonely death through efforts of the district and local community

Found middle-aged single resident living among piles of garbage through resident report in welfare blind spot

Comprehensive welfare administrative support including linkage to Dobong-gu Didimdol Housing and Care SOS housing convenience services

Realizing net-like welfare through community cooperation such as neighborhood 119 home repair support

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) discovered and supported a middle-aged single resident living among piles of garbage in a welfare blind spot, realizing ‘Dobong-style solidarity with the vulnerable’ net-like welfare.

The subject is a single-person household in their 40s who has been socially isolated without contact with family for nearly 10 years, relying on alcohol, and whose home was left neglected with various garbage piled up to the point there was no space to step.

Upon a report from a neighboring resident, Ssangmun 2-dong visited the household and judged that living in the current residence filled with garbage was very harmful to hygiene and health. They linked the resident to temporarily live in Dobong-gu Didimdol Housing and on February 22 conducted a large cleaning through the Care SOS Center housing convenience service, removing about 7 tons of garbage.

Due to severe damage to the interior environment, Dobong-gu requested the neighborhood 119 home repair volunteer group to carry out comprehensive home repairs including wallpapering, flooring, and sink replacement on March 12, and provided used appliances such as a washing machine and refrigerator.

After the home repair, the district will continue to support the resident to maintain stable daily life by providing Seoul-type emergency welfare livelihood support and regular welfare check monitoring to reduce alcohol dependence and help return to daily life.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Although a full survey is conducted to discover welfare blind spots in crisis situations, it is difficult to find residents who have not registered their move-in like this case without the interest and report of neighbors. If you become aware of neighbors in difficulty, please do not hesitate to contact the welfare officer at the community service center.” He added, “We promise to actively carry out welfare administration to eliminate welfare blind spots in the region and will do our best to create a dense micro-network welfare beyond net-like welfare.”

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, conducts field inspection of safety-vulnerable areas during thaw season

Safety inspection of landslide-prone areas, old fences in densely populated multi-family housing areas, retaining wall cracks, and construction sites

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, conducted a field inspection of safety-vulnerable areas during the thaw season on the 13th along with the district’s safety management department and private experts.

At 3 p.m. on the same day, Mayor Kim visited Bongje Mountain located in Hwagok-dong to inspect vulnerable areas where rockfalls and landslides are a concern.

He then checked for damage to slopes, cracks in old fences and retaining walls, focusing on densely populated multi-family and multi-household areas.

In particular, he visited the Magok district, which has many large-scale construction sites, to thoroughly check safety management measures around construction sites, compliance with worker safety rules, installation status of safety facilities such as fall prevention nets, and other safety equipment.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “Negligence in construction sites can easily lead to major accidents,” and urged, “Please strictly follow safety rules and create a safe workplace free of industrial accidents through spreading safety awareness and thorough preventive activities.”

He added, “The thaw season, when the ground repeatedly freezes and thaws during winter, is a period prone to various safety accidents, so thorough preparation and proactive prevention are the only ways to reduce damage,” and said, “We will do our best to create a safe Gangseo-gu through continuous management and inspection.”

Meanwhile, since February 17, the district has been conducting safety inspections on 671 safety-vulnerable facilities such as steep slopes and construction sites in the area to prevent safety accidents during the thaw season.
