The Western Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that it has successfully completed the winter fire safety measures implemented from November last year to the end of February this year, aiming to reduce casualties caused by large-scale fires during the winter season.
According to Gwangju Western Fire Station, the fire occurrence status in Seo-gu during the winter of 2022 (November to February) was 31 cases, which is an increase of 3 cases (10.71%) compared to the winter fires in 2021, and property damage increased by 36,407,000 KRW (43.56%). However, compared to the average winter fires over the past five years (2017?2021), fire occurrences decreased by 5.4 cases (14.84%), and property damage decreased by 11,095,000 KRW (8.46%).
The fire safety measures implemented included ▲ on-site guidance visits by fire station chiefs during Christmas, year-end, New Year’s holidays, and Lunar New Year holidays ▲ strengthening fire safety management and consulting for fire-vulnerable specific fire facilities and apartment complexes ▲ enhancing response capabilities for fire-vulnerable groups such as the elderly, youth, and children’s facilities ▲ safety management of power, communication, underground facilities, and construction sites, along with surprise dispatch drills ▲ promoting public fire safety awareness through the Fire Prevention Emphasis Month ▲ customized fire safety education for foreign workers, and especially, special projects such as safety care for daycare centers (equipped with evacuation guidance lines and fire blankets) ▲ and citizen-participation fire promotion activities combined with winter sports, completing these three key tasks.
A fire official stated, “Thanks to the great cooperation of citizens, we were able to spend the winter safely through the winter fire safety measures,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to prevent fires and minimize casualties.”
