Haenam-gun, Urban Gas Fee Reduction for Socially Vulnerable Groups

Retroactive Application for Usage in December Last Year, Submissions Accepted Until the 31st

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, will reduce city gas fees for socially disadvantaged groups in accordance with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's revised 'Guidelines for Reducing City Gas Fees for Socially Considerate Persons.'

According to the county on the 13th, the eligible groups include persons with severe disabilities, national and independence merit recipients, basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, multi-child families, and energy voucher recipients.

Although the discount amounts vary by group, the monthly city gas fee discount ranges from a maximum of 148,000 KRW to a minimum of 18,000 KRW.

Applicants for the discount can submit an application form and necessary qualification certificates to the resident welfare team at the town office or the customer center of Haeyang Energy Co., Ltd., and online applications are also available through the Government24 website.

This expanded discount applies only during the winter period from December last year to March this year. The discount is retroactively applied to usage in December last year, and the discount amount has been reflected in bills issued after the 16th of last month.

Existing applicants will have the revised discount amount applied without a separate application, but new applicants may need to submit certificates or verification documents.

The county plans to identify eligible recipients and encourage applications to prevent cases where support targets miss out on discounts due to lack of knowledge about eligibility, procedures, or methods.

A county official said, “The recent increase in LNG wholesale prices imported by Korea Gas Corporation likely increased the burden of heating costs during winter,” adding, “We hope that the city gas fee reduction will help vulnerable groups facing difficulties due to rising prices to stabilize their lives.”
