Presidential Award Winner Kim Hwaseon Selected for 'Behind the Maternal Grandmother's House'
Award Ceremony Held at Korea Pressed Flower Museum on April 21
The 22nd Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition, hosted by Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do and organized by the Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition Committee, awarded the Grand Prize to artist Kim Hwaseon's work "Behind Grandma's House."
This year, the Korea Pressed Flower Exhibition featured two categories?domestic exhibition (pressed flowers, preserved flowers) and international exhibition?with participation from 12 countries submitting a total of 348 works across three divisions.
Among these, the domestic pressed flower category selected a total of 90 works: 1 Grand Prize, 4 Grand Awards, 6 Excellence Awards, 15 Merit Awards, 20 Encouragement Awards, and 45 Special Selections.
In the international exhibition, 40 outstanding works were selected, including the Grand Prize awarded to China’s Kwak Ryeon-geun and Maeng Beon-ok for "Deer Crowing."
In the preserved flower category, the Grand Prize went to artist Kim Hyun-hwa’s "Pathway in the Summer Forest," with 20 additional works receiving Excellence, Merit, Encouragement, and Special Selection awards.
The judging was conducted by experts in each field, and to enhance fairness, the Grand Prize was selected through a national online vote.
The judges commented, “There were many excellent works that skillfully utilized composition and artistic expression, making it difficult to rank them,” and added, “We recognize the precious time invested in creating these works and applaud the artists’ efforts and passion.”
The awards ceremony for this contest will be held on April 21, and the winning works will be exhibited year-round at the Gurye Korean Pressed Flower Museum starting March 17.
