Jeong Joeun "Afraid but Must See the Truth"
Avoidance in Sexual Crimes with "Knew but Didn't Know" Response
It has been reported that the second-in-command of the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS) made statements acknowledging all the crimes committed by JMS President Jeong Myeong-seok.
On the 12th, a worship service edited video hosted by Jeong Joeun (real name Kim Ji-seon), who is called the second-in-command of JMS, was uploaded to a community of former JMS members. This worship service is known to have taken place at Bundang Lord's Church, which Jeong is in charge of.
In the video, Jeong said, "I can no longer just endure and be patient. Although it is frightening, we must be able to face the truth." This was an acknowledgment of the content reported in the Netflix documentary exposing Jeong Myeong-seok’s true nature, titled I Am a God: People Betrayed by God.
She continued, "If there are past mistakes, the best opportunity to settle them is right now," adding, "Condoning and silence are acts that sink the ship of history."
Jeong Myeong-seok was arrested in 2008, and at that time, Jeong Joeun, a woman in her 30s, was appointed as the second-in-command to focus on proselytizing to young people. Jeong Myeong-seok referred to Jeong as "one of the two olive trees" and called her a spiritual witness.
Regarding Jeong Myeong-seok’s sexual crimes, Jeong Joeun appeared to distance herself. She said, "I only vaguely knew. I was 17 years old when I was first evangelized. I was too young to understand even if I knew. There was nothing I could do." She also claimed, "Women were prevented from entering within a 3-meter radius of the teacher."
