Recruitment for Job Abandonment, Independence Preparation, You
Busan City will officially launch the ‘2023 Youth Challenge Support Project’ from the 13th to help young people who are struggling to find employment due to stopping job-seeking activities, by boosting their confidence and supporting their entry into society.
Last year, only a short-term course was conducted for 250 participants, but this year’s ‘Youth Challenge Support Project’ is divided into a 20-week long-term course called ‘WeKnit Campus+’ and a 4-week short-term course called ‘WeKnit Campus.’ The program consists of diverse and systematic education including ▲intensive counseling ▲case management ▲confidence recovery ▲career exploration ▲employment competency enhancement ▲and regionally customized support.
WeKnit means weaving you and me, us and society together.
The newly established long-term course this year is composed of 3 sessions, selecting 50 participants per session for a total of 150 people. Participants receive a participation allowance of 500,000 KRW after completing each 4-week course, and if they complete the entire 20-week course, they receive an additional incentive of 500,000 KRW, totaling up to 3,000,000 KRW in participation allowances.
The short-term course consists of 2 sessions, selecting 45 participants per session for a total of 90 people. Participants in the short-term course also receive a participation allowance of 500,000 KRW upon completing the 4-week course. Even after the program ends, additional support such as counseling with professional counselors and job placement is available through a 3-month follow-up management period.
The recruitment targets are ▲youth aged 18 to 34 who have no history of employment, education, or vocational training participation in the past 6 months and have a job-seeking abandonment questionnaire score of 21 or higher ▲youth preparing for independence (children who have aged out of protective care) ▲youth entering or leaving youth shelters ▲and regionally specialized youth. Not only youth residing in Busan but also youth living in Gyeongnam areas such as Gimhae and Yangsan connected by public transportation can apply.
Applications are accepted anytime through Worknet, and participants are selected based on the applicant’s job-seeking abandonment questionnaire and telephone counseling by a counselor.
The first session of the long-term course runs from the 13th to July 31st. For more details, visit the Busan Youth Platform or contact the Job Support Team at the Busan Economic Promotion Agency.
Lee Yoon-jae, Director of the Youth Industry-Academia Division, said, “Amid the economic employment downturn, the number of young people giving up on employment for various reasons is increasing,” adding, “We will support the Youth Challenge Support Project to serve as a foothold for young people to regain confidence, plan their future, and realize their dreams.”
