Busan Office of Education Seeks 'Improvement of School Meal Quality' On Site

Hayunsoo, Superintendent of Education, along with education support office chiefs and other senior officials of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, will conduct on-site inspections of school meal services.

This on-site inspection aims to prevent hygiene accidents related to school meals such as food poisoning and to directly gather opinions from the field on ways to improve school meals. The inspection will focus on checking meal quality, origin labeling, temperature maintenance, and the hygiene management status of school meals.

The senior officials will tour the kitchens on site, discuss with school meal staff about improving the school meal system and enhancing the quality of school meals, and reflect these opinions in policy formulation.

Additionally, during lunchtime, they will eat with students to directly hear their thoughts on overall school meals.

Kim Beomgyu, Director of Character, Physical Education, and School Meals at the City Office of Education, said, “This inspection will emphasize the importance of hygiene management in school meals and serve as a good opportunity to improve the quality and system of school meals.”

The senior officials’ on-site inspections are planned to be conducted periodically, starting with Cheongdong Elementary School in Yeongdo-gu on the 15th.

In addition to on-site inspections of school meals, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is making efforts to improve the quality of school meals through measures such as ▲supporting food costs for eco-friendly excellent agricultural products in kindergartens ▲increasing meal costs by 10% ▲improving meal facilities ▲operating schools with alternative menus for food allergies ▲research schools for vegetarian meals ▲developing excellent school meal recipes.
