20,000km Tour by Private Jet with High Carbon Emissions
2 Weeks LA→London→Milano→Paris→LA
Hollywood star and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio (48) sparked controversy by attending a 'sustainable fashion' event on a private jet.
According to the British Daily Mail on the 12th (local time), DiCaprio attended the 'Green Carpet Fashion Awards' held in Los Angeles (LA), USA, on the 9th.
The event was aimed at promoting sustainable fashion, with actress Cate Blanchett, Simu Liu, model Quannah Chasinghorse, and fashion designer Tom Ford serving as co-chairs. Several celebrities, including Heidi Klum and Jodie Turner-Smith, also appeared.

In particular, DiCaprio appeared in a modest navy suit, spoke about environmental issues, and then honored Sonia Guajajara, Brazil's Minister of Indigenous Peoples.
He said, "The Amazon rainforest depends on those most experienced in protecting the ecosystem, and that is undoubtedly the indigenous peoples," adding, "The Amazon is not only one of the most important places for wildlife but also crucial for sustaining life far beyond its borders."
He continued, "Minister Guajajara has been a fierce environmental activist for years, often in difficult and dangerous situations," praising her by saying, "During the previous government's disastrous rule, she became a powerful force defending over 900,000 indigenous people and more than 300 other cultures."
However, it was reported that DiCaprio flew approximately 12,000 miles (about 20,000 km) on a carbon-intensive private jet over two weeks before attending this event.
He flew 5,400 miles from LA to London last month on the 19th to attend the British Academy Awards held in London, and six days later moved to Milan, Italy.
On the 3rd of this month, he flew back to Paris to attend Fashion Week, stayed for two days, and then returned to LA. The destination was the Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
DiCaprio also sparked controversy in 2016 when he flew 8,000 miles (12,800 km) by private jet from Cannes, France, to New York, USA, to receive an award related to climate change.
The criticism of this behavior as contradictory stems from the enormous carbon emissions generated by private jets. Private jets are known to produce 5 to 14 times more carbon per passenger than commercial airplanes and 50 times more than trains.
Previously, DiCaprio has spoken about environmental issues multiple times. When he won the Best Actor award at the 88th Academy Awards in 2016, he said, "The climate crisis is real, it is happening now, and it is the most urgent threat facing all of humanity," urging, "We must work together and take action immediately."
