Wimins Amateur Asia Pacific Final Round 4
Female amateur golf prospect Kim Min-sol (photo) finished as the runner-up.
On the 12th, Kim Min-sol added 2 under par in the final 4th round of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) held at The Singapore Island Country Club (par 72) in Singapore, finishing in 2nd place with a score of 9 under par 279. This is the best result ever achieved by a Korean player in this tournament. The previous record was 3rd place, held by Lee Ye-won in 2019 and Lee Hyo-song in 2021.
Starting the final round 3 strokes behind in 2nd place, Kim Min-sol recorded 3 birdies and 1 bogey. Up to the 15th hole, she exchanged 1 birdie for 1 bogey and struggled to lower her score, but she made consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. However, there were not enough holes left to catch up. Ayla Garitski (Thailand) swept up 5 birdies (1 bogey), winning by a 5-stroke margin with a 14 under par 274. Korea finished the tournament with Park Ye-ji tied for 3rd place (6 under par 282), Lim Ji-yoo tied for 7th place (5 under par 283), and Seo Gyo-rim tied for 10th place (2 under par 286).
The tournament was established in 2018 by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), which organizes the men’s and women’s major golf championships The Open and the AIG Women’s Open, together with the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), to discover promising golf talents in the Asia region. The winner earns entry into three major tournaments on the LPGA Tour: the AIG Women’s Open, the Amundi Evian Championship, and the Chevron Championship. Additionally, the winner receives invitations to the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Tour (KLPGA) Hana Financial Group Championship, the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour ISPS Handa Australian Women’s Open, and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
