Walking 10,000 steps alone in a day can sometimes be a chore. Walking with like-minded people makes the journey less tiring. As you walk in sync and chat with them, the 10,000 steps a day soon become not a goal or task but an enjoyable daily routine. The best way to enjoy achieving 10,000 steps a day is undoubtedly to walk with your loved ones. Lee Pil-hyung, the mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, introduces healing walking trails in Dongdaemun-gu that are perfect for walking with friends, lovers, and family.
From Exit 4 of Janghanpyeong Station on Subway Line 5, walk about 500 meters toward Gunja Bridge, and you will encounter a large waterwheel. Passing this waterwheel and walking a bit further along the riverside, you will enter the beginning of the ‘Jangan Cherry Blossom Path’ that stretches along Jungnangcheon Stream. The ‘Jangan Cherry Blossom Path’ is a representative healing walking trail in Dongdaemun-gu where you can walk along the Jungnangcheon waterway and cherry blossom path. The 5.9 km embankment trail along the Jungnangcheon embankment, extending to Ihwa Bridge, becomes a beautiful flower path in spring with cherry blossoms in full bloom, and transforms into a quaint autumn foliage path with royal cherry trees and zelkova trees in fall. The trail is also equipped with amenities such as small libraries, swing chairs, and cafes, making it a beloved walking path for many citizens.

Every early April, a ‘Spring Flower Festival’ is held along this cherry blossom path. Cherry blossoms bloom overhead, while cornelian cherries, forsythias, and iris flowers greet visitors along the path. As dusk falls, you encounter a different scene; from sunset until 11 PM, colorful lights illuminate the cherry blossom tunnel mysteriously. Taking photos at the photo zones set up along the cherry blossom path and enjoying the romantic spring night with cultural and artistic performances, you will find yourself feeling healthier in both body and mind, and as a bonus, you will take home beautiful memories of a spring night with your loved ones.
After fully enjoying the ‘Cherry Blossom Path,’ it is also nice to cross the bridge and walk along the ‘Jungnangcheon Waterway.’ Dongdaemun-gu, which declared itself a ‘City of Flowers’ at the end of January this year, planted about 349,000 rose bushes in the green area along the Jungnangcheon riverside walking trail. How about walking the ‘Jungnangcheon Waterway’ while enjoying the fragrant scent of roses carried by the cool river breeze?

On days when you want to walk to your limit, it is recommended to enter the ‘Baebongsan Dulle-gil’ trail. Walking along the ‘Jangan Cherry Blossom Path,’ you will encounter the Baebong Yeonryukgyo Bridge leading to Baebongsan Mountain. Crossing this bridge and entering the forest path, you can take a 4.5 km circular trail that stretches north to south around Baebongsan. Walking slowly takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the trail is constructed as a barrier-free deck path, making it easy for wheelchairs and strollers to use.
LED streetlights are installed along the trail, allowing for night walks, and when you enter the hiking trail from the circular path, there is a bare-foot path made of yellow soil halfway up the mountain. Feeling the cool texture of the earth as you walk, you will eventually reach the Baebongsan summit sunrise plaza. The sunset viewed from the summit of Baebongsan, which offers a panoramic view of Dongdaemun-gu, soothes the body and mind tired from daily life and gives you the strength to live another day.
