Japan and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) established a hotline this month to strengthen communication.
According to foreign media including the Asahi Shimbun on the 11th, the Japanese government has set up a hotline between defense authorities. Japan can simultaneously communicate with all 10 ASEAN countries and exchange opinions with individual nations.
This is the first time ASEAN has established a hotline with a country outside its member states, and Japan is the first.
The Asahi Shimbun analyzed that the hotline was established to strengthen checks on China. The Japanese government evaluated ASEAN as a strategically important region for Japan's security in last year's defense white paper.
