Over 100 Residents Protest in Front of Gwangju City Hall
Mayor Kang Must Apologize... Joint Action with Jeonnam Residents Announced

Council members of Muan County and the Gwangju Combat Airfield Muan Relocation Opposition Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Opposition Committee) held an emergency press conference in response to Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jeong's statement that "Gwangju Military Airport will be integrated into Muan, Jeollanam-do."
On the 9th, Mayor Kang Gi-jeong of Gwangju stated at the 2nd Strategic Meeting of National Public Institutions held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, "We will integrate Gwangju Military Airport into Muan Airport and attract Korea Airports Corporation there."
In response, on the 10th at 2 p.m., Muan County council members and the Opposition Committee visited Gwangju City Hall to protest and held a rally condemning Mayor Kang Gi-jeong's remarks.

On that day, Park Moon-jae, chairman of the Opposition Committee, said in a statement, "Mayor Kang Gi-jeong has already decided on Muan County as the relocation site for Gwangju Military Airport and shamelessly uses the residents of Hampyeong County and Yeonggwang County as tools to provoke the people of Muan County," adding, "We urge an immediate apology to the residents of Jeollanam-do and Muan County, and if he does not comply, we strongly warn that the people of Muan County and the deceived residents of Jeollanam-do will unite and take action."
Lee Ho-seong, a member of the special parliamentary committee, condemned, "Mayor Kang Gi-jeong of Gwangju, who has incited conflict and division among the residents of Jeollanam-do and deceived them, must immediately apologize and immediately halt the unilateral relocation of Gwangju Military Airport despite the opposition of Muan County residents."
