Bottega Veneta Unveils Sock-Like Shoes
Fashion Industry Praises: "Interest Is Already High"
Italian luxury brand 'Bottega Veneta' has attracted attention by unveiling shoes resembling socks. In the fashion industry, these shoes have even been praised as "the beginning of a new trend."
According to the fashion industry on the 10th, Bottega Veneta held its 2023 winter fashion show in Milan, Italy, on the 25th of last month (local time).
The show featured various leather craft products, a strength of the brand. Among them, the most notable items were the sock-shaped shoes worn by models at the beginning of the show.
At first glance, the shoes look like socks but were made by weaving thin leather strips. The soles were made of flat leather and crafted so thin that it was difficult to see with the naked eye. The brand showcased shoes in various colors including ivory, red, and khaki.
Matthew Blazy, the designer leading the show, said, "We presented thin clothes and indoor shoes as if just out of bed," adding, "These shoes are slipper socks, but leather knit shoes made not of wool but leather."
He continued, "Since when do we think we start to get chic? When we are half-dressed at home in the morning? When wearing clothes that are almost like costumes?"
The price of the product has not yet been determined. However, considering the prices of other Bottega Veneta shoes, it is expected to cost several thousand dollars.
Online fashion magazine Hypebeast praised, "Interest is already hot online," and said, "Without a doubt, these shoes will appear countless times in street fashion photos of fashion week attendees."
Also, Bottega Veneta's collection was selected as one of the best 2023 F/W fashion shows by fashion magazine Vogue Korea. Vogue Korea described it as "a collection that shines with 'well-made' clothes without any special gimmicks."
This is not the first time a luxury brand has released sock-shaped shoes. Previously, French luxury brand 'Balenciaga' gained popularity by releasing 'sock sneakers' that fit snugly on the feet like socks.
