Early in Residency, 'Pyeongtaek Godeok New City' Regional Transportation to Improve Significantly Godeok Internationalization Plan District Metropolitan Transportation Supplementary Measures

Metropolitan transportation in Godeok New Town (Godeok Internationalization Planning District) in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, will be dramatically improved.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently accepted a proposal centered on eight projects, including the establishment of a new metropolitan bus route to Gangnam Station from Godeok New Town and the deployment of 15 demand-responsive transport (DRT) vehicles, thereby preparing the "Pyeongtaek Godeok Internationalization Planning District Metropolitan Transportation Special Measures."

According to the special measures, one city bus route (with 3 vehicles planned) and two village bus routes (each with 3 vehicles planned) will be newly established in the Godeok Internationalization Planning District. These buses will operate to key transportation hubs such as Seojeong-ri Station (Line 1), Pyeongtaek Jije Station (Line 1, SRT), and major metropolitan bus stops. Additionally, among existing routes, city bus number 1452 will be increased by 4 vehicles, and village buses 33A and 33B will each be increased by 1 vehicle.

In the second half of this year, a new metropolitan bus route (12 vehicles, 48 trips per day) directly connecting Pyeongtaek Jije Station, passing through the Godeok district, to Seoul Gangnam Station will also be established. Among the 12 vehicles, one will be a double-decker electric bus.

Furthermore, in areas where formal route buses (city buses or village buses) are difficult to operate due to insufficient travel demand during the early stages of occupancy, 15 demand-responsive transport (DRT) vehicles will be operated.

Also, at the Godeok Jayeon & Ja-i bus stop, which has the highest number of bus stops within the Pyeongtaek Godeok Internationalization Planning District, enclosed shelters and heating and cooling facilities will be installed.

The Godeok Internationalization Planning District, covering approximately 13.36 million square meters in Seojeong-dong and Godeok-myeon areas of Pyeongtaek City, has been occupied since June 2019. However, the implementation rate of detailed metropolitan transportation improvement projects was only 41% (11 out of 27 completed), resulting in insufficient transportation infrastructure and significant inconvenience for residents.

Accordingly, under the "Special Act on Metropolitan Transportation Management," the province requested designation as a special measures district (November 2021) and supplementary measures for metropolitan transportation improvement from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
