The National Assembly's Special Committee on Political Reform (Jeonggae Special Committee) held a subcommittee meeting on political relations law improvement on the 9th to discuss an election system reform proposal to be presented to the full committee, which includes all members of the National Assembly.
The subcommittee is reportedly planning to finalize the proposal after the upcoming party meetings of the People Power Party and the Democratic Party scheduled for next week.
Cho Hae-jin, the subcommittee chair from the People Power Party, told reporters after the meeting, "Our party leadership has been newly elected, so consultations between the floor leadership and the party leadership are necessary," adding, "The Democratic Party also needs internal discussions."
Chair Cho added, "We will observe the internal discussions within each party and set the schedule for the next subcommittee meeting once the discussions converge."
The Jeonggae Special Committee is currently discussing ▲maintaining the current single-member district system with proportional representation as is ▲single-member district plus semi-linked proportional representation ▲mixed urban-rural multi-member district system plus regional and semi-linked proportional representation ▲and a full proportional representation system.
The Jeonggae Special Committee plans to narrow down to two proposals and prepare a resolution by the 17th.
