Final Decision on Festival Timing, Duration, and Committee Selection
Hamyang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that the Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival Committee held the '2023 1st Regular General Meeting' on the 9th at 2 p.m. in the county office's large conference room, with about 80 festival committee members in attendance.
At this regular general meeting, four agenda items were deliberated: ▲ election of festival committee members ▲ confirmation of festival timing and duration ▲ approval of the basic festival plan and budget ▲ partial amendment of the committee's operating regulations.
The festival committee members who will be active for the successful hosting of the Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival total 96, including 79 appointed members and 19 ex officio members.
Among the appointed members, the chairman is Inotae Lee (retired public official), vice chairmen are Seontak Oh (former CEO of Hamyang Wild Ginseng Agricultural Corporation) and Kangsook Kim (CEO of Jin&Food), auditors are Jongdo Ki (wild ginseng farmer) and Pilsun Park (head of Nonghyup Bank county branch), and the secretary-general is Sangyeol Cha (agricultural product distribution business). A total of 29 representatives from various fields were elected as operating committee members.
The ex officio members include Hwaseop Hong, Director of the Safety and Construction Bureau, heads of festival-related departments, and heads of towns and townships.
Among the agenda items, the festival timing and duration, which drew the most interest from residents and wild ginseng farmers, was confirmed to be held for six days from September 7 to 12.
The basic festival plan involves a comparative analysis of last year’s Wild Ginseng Festival and other excellent festivals nationwide, with strategies to actively utilize SNS and the internet for promotion, sales, exhibitions, experiences, and visitor attraction. There is also a plan to significantly expand programs that local residents and students can participate in.
In particular, while the festival had a strong comprehensive cultural and artistic character up to the Wild Ginseng Expo, from this year onward, it plans to shift to an industrial and thematic festival focusing on wild ginseng.
Chairman Lee said, “It is an honor to be elected chairman and to hold the first regular general meeting with the newly formed committee members. The 18th Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival to be held this year will be made a successful festival through differentiated strategies by communicating and harmonizing with all committee members.”
County Governor Byungyoung Jin said, “Since this year’s Wild Ginseng Festival is the first one held together with the newly formed festival committee and myself as honorary chairman, expectations are very high. Through the Wild Ginseng Festival, I hope we can promote the premium Hamyang wild ginseng, revitalize the local economy, and enhance the county’s brand value through our collective efforts.”
Hamyang County plans to operate the 2023 Wild Ginseng Festival with a basic budget of 700 million KRW, which is about 300 million KRW less than the previous year, but with a shorter and more substantial duration.
