Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council Changwon City Chapter Holds Regular Meeting

Prospects for Inter-Korean Relations and the Korean Government's Challenges: A Heated Debate

The Changwon City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council held its first regular meeting of 2023 on the 9th at the large conference room on the 2nd floor of Masanhappo-gu Office, Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, with about 140 advisory members attending, including Ha Jongmok, the 1st Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, Kim Igeun, Chairman of Changwon City Council, and Choi Chungkyung, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongnam Branch of the National Unification Advisory Council.


The meeting proceeded in the following order: ▲ Opening remarks by Kang Jeomjong, Chairman of the Council ▲ Congratulatory speech by Ha Jongmok, 1st Deputy Mayor ▲ Congratulatory speech by Kim Igeun, Chairman of Changwon Special City Council ▲ Encouragement speech by Choi Chungkyung, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongnam Branch ▲ Greetings by Kim Yonghan, Head of the Supervising Branch ▲ Topic explanation and discussion by Professor Lee Giwan of Changwon National University ▲ Report on major tasks.


Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council Changwon City Chapter Holds Regular Meeting The Changwon City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council held its first regular meeting of 2023 on the 9th in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of Masanhappo-gu Office, Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam.

At the meeting, there was a passionate discussion among the advisory members of the Changwon City Council regarding the outlook for inter-Korean relations in 2023 and government tasks, in line with the government's peace and unification policy of "Realizing a Nuclear-Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Korean Peninsula."


Kang Jeomjong, Chairman of the Changwon City Council, said in his opening remarks, “The domestic and international environment surrounding the Korean Peninsula is very difficult, with intensified factional conflicts in the international community, and North Korea is worsening the situation on the Korean Peninsula through nuclear threats and military provocations,” urging to demonstrate the image of an ‘Active National Unification Advisory Council’ and to unite the living energy for unification into one.


Ha Jongmok, the 1st Deputy Mayor, said, “The role of the advisory members here is very important to lead North Korea’s denuclearization amid the strained inter-Korean relations,” and added, “I hope that many bold ideas for realizing peace on the Korean Peninsula will be explored through today’s policy discussion.”
