The Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation announced on the 9th that it will invest 214.4 billion KRW to renovate agricultural production infrastructure across 200 districts in 13 projects.
The Agricultural Production Infrastructure Renovation Project involves constructing or repairing agricultural production facilities such as reservoirs, pumping stations, irrigation and drainage canals, and embankments. This aims to create a farming foundation that is safe from disasters and suitable for mechanized farming, thereby contributing to the stable production of various crops and improving farming convenience.
This year’s major projects include ▲ 25.5 billion KRW for the Multipurpose Rural Water Development Project to secure water for agriculture and rural areas, ▲ 51.6 billion KRW for the Drainage Improvement Project to resolve flooding damage, ▲ 8 billion KRW for the Rural Water Use System Reorganization Project to systematically connect existing water facilities, ▲ 12 billion KRW for the Flood Control Capacity Enhancement Project to improve flood discharge capacity of large reservoirs and embankments, and ▲ 94 billion KRW for the Repair and Renovation Project of existing aging water facilities, targeting a total of 200 districts.
In particular, the Jeonnam Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation expects that the newly launched Gokseong Seokgok District Multipurpose Rural Water Development Project and Haenam Bukil District Rural Water Use System Reorganization Project will enable long-term preparation against ongoing regional droughts.
Director Cho Young-ho said, “Although we are facing difficulties due to drought, now is the most appropriate time to establish and implement long-term measures for stabilizing and creating a reliable farming environment.” He added, “We will focus our efforts on expanding agricultural production infrastructure to realize sustainable future agriculture and do our best to create an environment where farmers can cultivate with peace of mind.”
