Gyeonggi Province plans to train 660 semiconductor practical workers by 2025. To this end, the province is publicly recruiting universities to participate in the training of specialized personnel for the semiconductor industry.
On the 9th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invite companies to participate in the "Gyeonggi Province Semiconductor Industry Specialized Personnel Training Project," which is being promoted together with the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute to stabilize the supply of semiconductor personnel in the province by the 14th.
The province plans to train about 660 practical technical personnel over three years until December 2025.
First, the province will establish a cooperative system between universities with semiconductor-related departments and companies within the province to share educational curricula and semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) practical facilities. Through this, it plans to strengthen on-site practical education by providing internships at participating companies.
This recruitment targets academic-industry consortia composed mainly of universities, vocational high schools, and companies. Universities wishing to participate must have semiconductor-related departments and be capable of providing semiconductor practical education.
Selected universities will receive 1.35 billion KRW in support over three years starting from 2023.
Song Eun-sil, head of the Semiconductor Industry Division of the province, said, "We hope many excellent universities in the province will take an interest and participate in semiconductor personnel training through this recruitment," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will do its utmost to ensure a sustainable supply of excellent practical personnel, which are the foundation of the semiconductor industry."
Meanwhile, the province will announce the results of the recruitment selection at the end of this month.
