Pico Innovation announced on the 9th that it has completed the industry's first joint logistics center for pharmaceutical companies in the Dream Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi Province, and held a completion ceremony.

The completion ceremony was attended by representatives of companies participating in the joint logistics center and partners, as well as Kim Kyung-man, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Hyun-jung, the Democratic Party of Korea's Pyeongtaek-eul regional committee chair, and Choi Won-yong, deputy mayor of Pyeongtaek-si.

The joint logistics center construction project began in early 2020 when the smooth supply of pharmaceuticals emerged as an important issue due to COVID-19, aiming to establish a rapid and efficient logistics system for each pharmaceutical company. To reduce the burdensome costs of land acquisition and warehouse construction for individual small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies, the project was promoted mainly by initial investors such as the Korea Pharmaceutical Cooperative. The project was fully launched in July of the same year with the establishment of Pico Innovation, a pharmaceutical logistics specialist company. Currently, 26 companies have agreed to participate in the joint project, and since January of this year, they have been sequentially participating in warehouse and logistics operations every month.

To build the logistics center, Pico Innovation secured a site of approximately 16,000 pyeong (about 53,000㎡) within the Dream Industrial Complex in Pyeongtaek-si, and in the first phase, constructed an advanced automated pharmaceutical logistics center with a site area of 5,200 pyeong and a total floor area of 12,500 pyeong (5 floors above ground, 1 basement floor), launching a system that jointly handles the entire logistics process for multiple pharmaceutical companies.

The automated logistics center has a total of 36,600 cells, including 24,000 automated warehouse cells, equipped with advanced automated facilities such as a picking system, as well as refrigerated and frozen warehouses. It provides a 'total logistics system' that handles storage, sorting, packaging, and shipping of products for participating small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies, as well as returns and recalls.

A Pico Innovation official stated, "Through the joint logistics center, participating pharmaceutical companies are expected to solve warehouse shortage issues and reduce logistics costs by about 30% compared to before," adding, "Many pharmaceutical companies are considering additional participation."
