Suwon City Takes Initiative to Reduce Single-Use Products

Suwon City Takes Initiative to Reduce Single-Use Products Suwon City Hall

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is launching the 'Public Institutions Single-Use Items Reduction Campaign' together with its affiliated public organizations.

Suwon City explained that public officials will take the lead in the campaign to reduce single-use items to build public consensus among citizens, and through this, they hope to spread a consumption culture that avoids using single-use items to the private sector.

The city will first start the campaign at the main office, then proceed to the four district offices, business sites, and public institutions in order.

In particular, the city will select additional items each month besides single-use cups and encourage participation in reducing single-use items on the 10th of every month.

Additionally, a support system will be established to rent, collect, and wash reusable cups for large-scale events or meetings with more than 50 attendees.

A city official stated, "We hope that the image of public officials reducing single-use items one by one in daily life will be conveyed to citizens," and urged, "We ask all Suwon City public officials to participate and become dignified public officials who do not use single-use items, embodying both basics and dignity (gipum)."
