First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, attended the March 8 International Women's Day commemorative ceremony held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, invited by the Korean National Council of Women, to encourage female leaders.
In her congratulatory speech, Mrs. Kim stated, "Although the status and rights of women have greatly improved through past efforts, women are still exposed to various social inequalities and crimes," and pointed out, "The government and society must work together to expand the social safety net." She added, "Let us work together to create a fair Republic of Korea."
Mrs. Kim also emphasized, "It is necessary to reflect on the true meaning of International Women's Day through solidarity and support for the women and children in T?rkiye who are endangered by the recent earthquake damage."
