Yoon on Hapcheon Wildfire: "Mobilize All Available Resources... Make Every Effort for Early Containment"

President Yoon Suk-yeol gave an urgent order to "mobilize all available resources to ensure early containment" of the large wildfire that occurred in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, the presidential spokesperson Lee Do-woon said in a written briefing on the 8th.

According to the briefing, President Yoon received a report in the afternoon that a large wildfire was spreading in Hapcheon and said, "The Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of National Defense, the National Fire Agency, and other related ministries should activate a cooperative system," urging them to do so.

Currently, a wildfire near Yongju-myeon in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, has grown, prompting the issuance of 'Wildfire Level 3.' Wildfire Level 3 is declared when the estimated damage area exceeds 100 hectares, the average wind speed is 7 m/s or higher, and the expected containment time is 24 hours or more. This is the first issuance of such a level this year.
