Presidential Office: "Ruling Party Convention Confirmed National Policy Slogan... Congratulations to New Leadership"

Yoon Adds Two Sentences On the Spot
'No Winners or Losers in Party Elections,' 'Only Think of the People and Move Forward'
Breaking the Establishment Is His Usual Belief

The Presidential Office evaluated the People Power Party's national convention on the 8th, stating that it was "an occasion where about 10,000 party members and guests could confirm the national governance slogan, 'Again Korea, a Nation of Great People.'

Kim Eun-hye, the chief public relations officer, said at a briefing that afternoon, "President Yoon Seok-yeol's congratulatory message at today's national convention included a request to 'unite as agents of reform and innovation.'

She added, "Two sentences were added spontaneously to the president's congratulatory message," explaining that "there are no winners or losers in the People Power Party's internal election, and all party members should think of the people first, second, and third, and move forward together."

Kim also said, "Through today's national convention, the president's intention is to unite efforts so that the party changes the country and creates a nation where the people are the owners."

Shortly after Kim's briefing, it was reported that Kim Ki-hyun, a four-term candidate, was elected as the new party leader. Regarding Kim's election, a senior official from the Presidential Office stated, "The Presidential Office congratulates the election of the new leadership."

When asked about the Presidential Office's position on a recording that revealed a civil society official from the Presidential Office had requested promotion for candidate Kim, the official avoided commenting, saying, "This matter has been reported to the investigative authorities. We believe it is not appropriate to provide specific comments."

Regarding President Yoon's mention of dismantling vested interest cartels at both the Cabinet meeting the previous day and the national convention, the official said, "He reiterated his usual conviction that the vested interest cartels causing suffering to the people must be eradicated."

The official also referred to the musical Les Mis?rables' theme song "Do You Hear the People Sing," which was used as President Yoon's entrance song at the national convention, saying, "It is one of President Yoon's favorite songs. It is a song about listening carefully to the cries of the truly vulnerable. The government must work with determination for the voices of these people."

He added, "I think the theme song was played with the intention of sharing the responsibility of caring for the vulnerable as a party that unwaveringly pursues pension, education, and labor reforms for the sustainability of our society and the younger generation, and as a party that protects the values of liberal democracy enshrined in the constitution."
