The city of Newport Beach, California, USA, has pledged to cooperate for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.

According to Yeosu City, Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu and Kim Young-gyu, chairman of the city council, along with the Islands Expo promotion team, visited Newport Beach City Hall on the 6th local time and held a meeting with Mayor Noah Blom.

During the meeting, the promotion team presented Mayor Noah Blom with the official first invitation letter to the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and requested Newport Beach City's active interest and support.

They also discussed the tourism resources and tourism industries of both cities and agreed to cooperate in various fields such as culture and arts.

In particular, the promotion team emphasized that unlike the west coast of the United States, Yeosu has many islands, offering American tourists a unique coastal landscape.

Mayor Noah Blom said, "Thank you very much for responding to the request to visit Newport Beach and for inviting us to the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo. We will actively support the promotion of friendship between the two cities and the successful hosting of the expo."

Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu stated, "Through this visit, we were able to confirm the strong friendship between Yeosu and Newport Beach. Starting with sister cities, we will actively promote the Islands Expo to marine tourism cities around the world."

Chairman Kim Young-gyu said, "The west coast of the United States is characterized by a coastline stretching without islands. I hope we actively promote the charm of our coast with its 365 beautiful islands."

Meanwhile, Newport Beach City signed a sister city agreement with Yeosu City in 1997, and in 2013, former Newport Beach Mayor Keith Curry visited Yeosu, continuing mutual exchanges.
