According to Gyeongnam Province on the 8th, the pilot project has been implemented since 2021 to support performance improvement projects for urgently managed infrastructure, aiming to resolve management imbalances and encourage active policy participation by local governments.

The province announced that the performance improvement projects selected in this call include Goam Reservoir located in Uichang-gu, Changwon City, and Sono Reservoir located in Sangbuk-myeon, Yangsan City.

Out of 32 projects from 9 local governments nationwide, 8 projects from 6 provinces were finally selected, with 2 of these projects belonging to Gyeongsangnam-do.

Both reservoirs are over 70 years old and have a severe aging condition with a safety grade of D. The province plans to carry out embankment reinforcement to prevent leakage, slope maintenance, and facility repairs.

Adding 450 million KRW of local funds to the secured national budget, a total of 900 million KRW will be invested in the project.

The province expects that the performance improvement projects will proactively maintain the infrastructure by protecting nearby residents from disaster risks, securing structural stability, increasing facility value, and extending the service period.

Park Hyun-sook, Director of the Construction Support Division, said, “Being selected for this year’s pilot project contributes to expanding local finances,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that aging infrastructure is properly managed according to standards through increased national funding requests and the discovery of new projects.”
