According to the county on the 8th, the signing ceremony was attended by Kim Seong, the governor of Jangheung-gun, Lee Geon-cheol, CEO of the Jeollanam-do Tourism Foundation, and Kim Young-hyun, head of the Old Jangheung Prison Cultural Regeneration Project Group.

With the signing of this business agreement, the two organizations established a collaborative system for discovering and operating content related to the old Jangheung Prison.

In particular, they agreed to jointly promote the planning and marketing of tourism products under the preemptive use of the ‘Movie Road (Namdo Film Road)’ brand.

Furthermore, they agreed to develop various distribution channels by planning linked experiential products connecting local resident businesses, tourism companies, and travel agencies.

Currently, the old Jangheung Prison is the only real prison filming location representing South Korea, with about 20 films and dramas being shot annually.

It is also preparing to open as a prison-themed park through its transformation into a ‘space for reflection and healing cultural regeneration.’

They plan to create themed and regional Movie Roads (Namdo Film Road) centered on the old Jangheung Prison, as well as connect with prison-specialized projects such as the prison cell film festival within the prison.

Governor Kim Seong stated, “The old Jangheung Prison will serve as a comprehensive hub for tourism in Jangheung and become a key base for travel in Jeollanam-do. This agreement with the Jeollanam-do Tourism Foundation marks the starting point for making Jangheung-gun a mecca for film shooting.”

Meanwhile, Jangheung-gun purchased the site of the old prison in 2019 and was selected in September of the same year for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘2020 Idle Space Cultural Regeneration Project’ contest, accelerating the project’s progress.

Kim Young-hyun, head of the Old Jangheung Prison Cultural Regeneration Project Group, is a cultural expert who previously served as the head of the management group for the 6th region ‘Namdo Sea Road’ project among South Korea’s top 10 themed travel projects and as director of the Regional Culture Promotion Institute, leading this project.
