Launch of Video Copyright Protection Council... Criminal Complaint Against NunuTV
Broadcasting and film distributors and online video service (OTT) industry have formed a video copyright protection council to respond to copyright infringement and other issues.
The council announced on the 8th, "As individual copyright holders face limitations in responding to increasingly sophisticated online copyright infringement and unauthorized use, we have launched a council for joint response."
Formed on the 2nd of last month, the council includes broadcasters (MBC, KBS, CJ ENM, JTBC), the Korea Film and Video Copyright Association composed of film producers and distributors, content producer SLL, OTT platforms Wavve and TVING, and ACE, the world's largest anti-piracy organization.
The council stated that it will submit a criminal complaint on the 9th against the illegal streaming site 'NunuTV', which operates servers overseas to illegally provide video content and generate profits.
An Sangpil, deputy head of MBC's legal team, said, "We are a pan-video industry council encompassing domestic video copyright holders and organizations as well as overseas copyright holders. Not only can we respond to copyright infringement and unauthorized use domestically, but we can also address Korean video copyright infringement overseas. Through joint response, this creates an opportunity to protect and develop domestic video copyright holders and the video industry."
A council official said, "Video copyright holders will no longer overlook copyright infringement and will actively respond to protect copyright holders and legitimate users. We will propose to the government a public-private cooperation plan, including campaigns targeting illegal users."
