'Public Utility Fee Freeze' Incheon City, 10% Reduction in Sewerage Charges for 6 Months

Incheon City announced on the 8th that, in accordance with the policy to freeze public utility charges in the first half of this year, it will reduce sewerage fees by 10% for six months starting from the March bills issued this month.

Earlier, on the 17th of last month, the city announced that it would not raise seven major public utility charges, including taxi, bus, subway, and water and sewerage fees, in the first half of the year to ease the burden on citizens caused by high inflation.

Accordingly, the sewerage fees that were already increased at the beginning of this year will be discounted for six months following the freeze announcement.

The January meter reading charges (February bills) were issued before this decision, so from the February meter reading charges (March bills) to the July meter reading charges (August bills), sewerage fees will be reduced by 10% for six months.

According to the city's plan to rationalize sewerage fees, the standard unit prices were adjusted differently by industry, and it was decided to increase them by an average of 10% annually over three years from 2021 to this year. Accordingly, from January 1st of this year (based on the meter reading date), residential sewerage fees were raised from 380 KRW to 410 KRW per cubic meter.

Meanwhile, the city plans to proceed with the scheduled public utility fee increases in the second half of this year in a way that minimizes the burden on the low-income economy.
