Hyundai Engineering Holds Completion Ceremony for ‘Lembaimbu Water Purification Plant’ in DR Congo

35,000 Tons of Purified Water Supplied to Approximately 400,000 People

Hyundai Engineering announced on the 8th that it held a completion ceremony for the 'Lemba Imbu Water Purification Plant Phase 1 Construction Project' on the 4th in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), Africa.


With the completion of Phase 1, the plant will produce 35,000 tons of purified water per day, supplying approximately 400,000 local residents. The entire project cost was funded by Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).

It will produce 35,000 tons of purified water per day, supplying approximately 400,000 local residents.

The Lemba Imbu Water Purification Plant project is planned in three phases, and Hyundai Engineering has decided to participate in the bidding for the upcoming Phase 2 and 3 projects.


The Phase 2 and 3 projects will expand the plant's water treatment capacity, reservoir storage capacity, and transmission and distribution pipe facilities. Upon completion, it is expected to produce about 200,000 tons of purified water per day, supplying more than one million people.


At the completion ceremony, Mutombo Rezideso, the president, said, “We express our gratitude to Hyundai Engineering and the Korean government for successfully completing Phase 1 of the Lemba Imbu Water Purification Plant construction project amid severe water shortages caused by rapid population growth. We hope for continued interest and support to ensure the smooth progress of the remaining Phase 2 and 3 projects.”


Cho Jae-cheol, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, stated, “The completion of the Lemba Imbu Water Purification Plant will not only contribute to improving the quality of life for local residents but also serve as an important milestone for regional economic development and economic cooperation between the two countries.”
