Renewal of the 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Space and Establishment of a New Book Cafe, Offering Customized Educational Programs for Users

Operating Exhibition and Experience Zones for 4th Industrial Revolution Technologies in Six Areas Including VR Zone and AR Zone, Expanding Programs

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it has completed the renewal of the Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Center and is ready to welcome children and adolescents, the future generation leaders.

Located in Haengdang-dong, the Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Center has a total floor area of 1,263㎡ and is a two-story building that opened in October 2017. The center is equipped with the largest indoor drone experience facility in Korea and promotes the cultivation of convergent talents suited to the times through education on the 4th Industrial Revolution, including the Internet of Things and Virtual Reality (VR).

Seongdong-gu plans to transform the exhibition space, which was mainly for tours, into an interactive experience space through facility improvements and program expansion to provide diverse experiences. The total number of programs has been expanded to about 100, with a more detailed composition to broaden the choices for residents.

In particular, visitors can experience various newly introduced programs such as virtual reality simulators, drone simulations, and artificial intelligence robot experiences in six experience zones including the Virtual Reality (VR) Zone, Augmented Reality (AR) Zone, Robot Zone, Drone Zone, and Future Job Experience Zone. Additionally, responding to feedback about the lack of waiting space for parents, a new book cafe has been established in the first-floor lobby.

The district has also focused on diverse program composition beyond facility improvements. In line with the recovery of daily life, the center has shifted from mainly online to offline experiential classes, offering customized educational programs such as center experience and education programs, school-linked and semester-based SW·AI camps, and the 4th Industrial Revolution Festival. Detailed program information and application methods can be found on the Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Center website.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Through this new change, the Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Center is ready to provide residents with new and diverse experiences of future technologies.” He added, “Going forward, Seongdong-gu will continue to pay attention and support the cultivation and discovery of creative and convergent future talents in the era of AI digital transformation.”

Gangdong-gu Launches Creative Administration with Idea Contest

Encouraging Self-Directed Work Improvement through Employee Idea Proposal Contest to Realize Proactive Administration

Incentives Provided to Outstanding Proposers to Expect High Participation and Effective Suggestions

Dong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 8th that it will hold an idea contest to kick off creative administration aimed at becoming an innovative city.

From the 2nd to the 31st of this month, the district is publicly soliciting ideas that will bring small but powerful changes to residents' daily lives through the ‘Employee Idea Proposal’ contest.

This contest is themed ‘Self-Work Improvement’ to encourage employees to take an active and creative attitude toward improving their work and providing administrative services for residents. The theme plays on the dual meaning of ‘自己’ (oneself) and ‘自起’ (rising by one's own power), aiming to generate feasible proposals by having employees review and improve their own work.

Not only individuals but also small groups of up to three members can participate, allowing team members to brainstorm together, develop collaboration skills, and come up with creative ideas.

Outstanding proposers will receive prize money. This is intended to increase employee participation and motivation for work improvement. Idea selection will go through preliminary screening and a proposal review committee, with winners to be announced in June.

Improving Residents' Living Environment with Creative Employee Ideas

There have been many cases where creative employee ideas have improved the living environment of Gangdong-gu residents.

In 2012, the idea of ‘Easily Donating Small Local Tax Refunds’ simplified the donation process by creating refund notices that also served as donation consent forms, greatly contributing to the spread of donation culture. The same year, the idea of ‘Creating a Comic Mural Village with Artists and Community’ led to the completion of ‘Gangpul Comic Street,’ which remains a beloved landmark in Gangdong-gu. In 2014, the idea of ‘Creating a Cultural Gallery Using Cheonho Underpass’ resulted in a cultural gallery rest area in the underpass, actively operated as a space where residents can enjoy exhibitions and performances in their daily lives.

A New Challenge, Another Leap Forward with Creative Administration for Residents

Gangdong-gu annually organizes such idea contests to break away from conventional work methods and foster a more challenging and proactive attitude toward creative administration. This provides employees with opportunities to rethink and develop their duties further and to inspire innovative thinking.

In the second half of this year, a similar idea proposal contest for residents will also be held.

Regarding this, Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “We will continue to actively pursue creative administration to discover creative ideas in daily life through residents' voices and bring meaningful changes to everyday life.”
