Seongnam Daewon Park Renovated After 25 Years as a Specialized Theme Park

Seongnam Daewon Park Renovated After 25 Years as a Specialized Theme Park Daewon Park, Old Downtown, Seongnam City

'Daewon Park', a mountainous neighborhood park located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province (187-2, Hadaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu), will be developed into a specialized theme park by 2025.

Seongnam City recently completed the 'Daewon Neighborhood Park Redevelopment Plan and Development Concept Service' and announced on the 6th that it has begun the detailed design service for creating a theme park within the original downtown Daewon Park.

This service work represents the development of the entire park area for the first time in over 50 years since it was designated as a neighborhood park in 1972.

The city will invest 34 billion KRW to develop Daewon Park into four themed zones: Morning Zone, Day Zone, Evening Zone, and Night Zone.

The Morning Zone (189,050㎡) will be designed as a space to experience morning energy, featuring a sunrise observatory called Hae Oreum, a forest resting area, a moss hill, and garden walking paths.

The Day Zone (309,590㎡) will include facilities ideal for daytime activities such as a barefoot clay path, water play area, ground fountain plaza, and a specialized plaza.

The Evening Zone (110,748㎡) will be composed of spaces to enjoy the evening, including a sunset observatory called Hae Neomi, an accessible deck road, and a forest experience center.

The Night Zone (182,280㎡) will be designed as a resting area where visitors can gaze at the stars, featuring a starlight plaza and garden, a scenic walking path, a birch forest resting area, and a cypress healing forest.

Additionally, a 5.2 km-long trail called 'Daewon Saechorok-gil' (tentative name) will be created, encompassing the entire Daewon Park.

The city will hold two resident briefing sessions on the 7th at the audiovisual room on the 3rd floor of Seongnam Jungwon Library and at the Jungang-dong Community Center to gather opinions before finalizing the facility plans for each section.

A city official stated, "Daewon Park borders four neighborhoods?Seongnam-dong, Jungang-dong, Hadaewon-dong, and Sangdaewon-dong?so many citizens have used it as an urban forest. Once developed into a theme park, it will emerge as a new landmark representing the original downtown area."
