President Yoon: "Wildfires Destroy Citizens' Lives and Property"
Orders Full Mobilization of Equipment and Personnel for Rapid Suppression During Wildfire Occurrences
Also Requests Prompt Recovery Through Administrative and Financial Measures
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 5th gave an urgent directive, stating, "The Korea Forest Service, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and other related ministries should designate the period from now until the rainy season as a special countermeasure period and devote all efforts to prevention and situation management."
President Yoon received a report on the rapidly increasing wildfire situation due to dry weather and other factors, and "the risk of wildfire occurrence has recently increased sharply," he instructed, according to Lee Do-woon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, in a written briefing on the same day.
President Yoon emphasized, "It takes a long time to restore forests damaged by wildfires, and wildfires are serious disasters that destroy the lives and property of the people. Above all, prevention in advance is important."
He continued, "Most wildfires occur due to minor negligence such as arson or burning trash. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Forest Service, and local governments should make every effort to strengthen patrols, guidance, and promotional activities for wildfire prevention."
President Yoon also instructed, "In the event of a wildfire, promptly activate the cooperation system among related ministries so that, in addition to the Korea Forest Service, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of National Defense, the National Fire Agency, the National Police Agency, and other related ministries mobilize all available helicopters, equipment, and personnel to suppress the fire early."
He particularly ordered, "If citizens lose their precious homes due to wildfires, promptly implement administrative and financial support measures according to relevant laws and regulations to minimize inconvenience to the people and support rapid recovery."
