As the wildfire that broke out three days ago in Suncheon, Jeonnam spreads due to strong winds, Kim Seong-ho, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, instructed, "The forestry authorities, fire departments, and local governments must swiftly deploy all available resources to minimize damage."
Kim also urged, "Establish firebreaks thoroughly to prevent damage to residential areas, and ensure residents in areas at risk of fire damage evacuate in advance."
He added that special attention should be paid to the safety of firefighting personnel during nighttime wildfire suppression to prevent casualties.
According to the Central Wildfire Prevention Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service, the wildfire occurred around 2:32 p.m. that day in San 15, Mangyong-ri, Woldeung-myeon, Suncheon-si, Jeonnam. The forestry authorities have raised the response level to stage 2 and are focusing on extinguishing the fire.
