The 61st class of the ROTC at Dong-A University (Dong-A University ROTC) was commissioned as officers at the '2023 Republic of Korea ROTC Officer Commissioning Ceremony.'
At the commissioning ceremony held on the 28th of last month at the Army Cadet Military School in Goesan, Chungbuk, 56 candidates from Dong-A University ROTC 61st class were officially commissioned as second lieutenants in the Republic of Korea Army and Marine Corps.
They underwent military training during the semesters on campus and during the winter and summer breaks at the Army Cadet Military School over the past two years, and passed the final comprehensive commissioning evaluation.
At the ceremony, Second Lieutenant Lee Jae-min (a graduate of Dong-A University’s Department of International Trade), who chose to naturalize in order to become a Republic of Korea ROTC officer despite being a Taiwanese national exempt from military service, received enthusiastic applause from the attendees.
The event, hosted by the Minister of National Defense, was attended by An Jun-sik, commander of Dong-A University ROTC, instructor Lee Bin, related personnel, members of the Dong-A University ROTC alumni association, and family members to celebrate the commissioning.

Earlier, at the commissioning event held within the Dong-A University ROTC on the 24th of last month, Second Lieutenant Kim Dong-woo was selected as the representative candidate of the ROTC and received the Army Chief of Staff Award; Second Lieutenant Choi Ho-jun was recognized as an outstanding student in military science and academic performance and received the university president’s award; and Second Lieutenant Kim Kwang-gyu, who ranked first in the military training course among the 61st class candidates, received the Army Cadet Military School Commandant’s Award.
Second Lieutenant Kim Dong-woo said, “It was an honor to be commissioned with my parents personally pinning the second lieutenant insignia on both my shoulders,” and added, “I will not forget the initial determination I had when I first applied as an ROTC cadet at Dong-A University in my freshman year and will work hard during my military service.”
The newly commissioned second lieutenants will enter their respective branches to complete the new officer command and staff training course and are scheduled to be assigned to units across the front and rear lines around the end of June.
Having produced a total of about 4,500 officers up to the 61st class, Dong-A University ROTC is recruiting candidates for the 64th and 65th classes until April 5. Dong-A University ROTC was first established nationwide in 1961 and commissioned 95 officers in its first class in 1963.
