Placement of Employment-Vulnerable Groups and Unemployed Youth in Workplaces
Expectations for Resolving Youth and Adult Unemployment and Reviving the Stagnant Economy
Gumi City (Mayor Kim Jang-ho) will implement the "2023 First Half Public Work Project and Community Job Project" from March 6 to June 30, for about four months, investing approximately 1.1 billion KRW to support 145 participants in order to stabilize the livelihood of employment-vulnerable groups and alleviate unemployment among youth and middle-aged adults.
For the first half public work project and community job project, about 574 applicants applied during the recruitment period from January 25 to February 3. Among them, 145 participants were finally selected based on a comprehensive evaluation of household income, assets, number of dependents, and other factors, and were assigned to 58 workplaces including Gumi City Hall, business offices, and eup/myeon/dong districts.
Participants aged 65 or older work 15 hours per week, those under 65 work 30 hours per week, and youth participants aged 34 or younger work 40 hours per week. They receive a wage of 9,620 KRW per hour and work in areas such as administrative assistance and counseling projects, separation and collection projects, village beautification, and utilization of local idle space facilities.
To prevent safety accidents, safety and health education is conducted for participants at each workplace. Additionally, COVID-19 infection prevention measures are strengthened by maintaining workplace cleanliness, wearing masks, and using hand sanitizers to enhance personal hygiene management.
With the implementation of the public job projects in the first half of the year, it is expected to greatly help stabilize employment for low-income groups facing difficulties and contribute to the recovery of the sluggish economy. Beyond simply providing short-term jobs, active guidance will be provided for participants to engage in job support services, vocational training, and employment support programs such as the National Employment Support System to facilitate their transition to the private employment market.
Gumi City annually provides stable jobs to employment-vulnerable groups through direct job projects such as public work projects and community job projects. By promoting differentiated, locally led job projects that reflect the characteristics and autonomy of the region, the city contributes to creating new jobs and revitalizing the local economy.
