On the 3rd, Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, held a briefing on the preparation status of the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree at the Government Seoul Office and announced these details. Prior to this, the government held the '2nd Government Support Committee' chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to review and approve key support tasks.
The World Scout Jamboree (World Jamboree) is an event that realizes the 'Jamboree Spirit,' which contributes to national development and world peace by fostering pioneering spirit and fortitude through diverse cultural exchanges and camping life. It began in 1920 in the United Kingdom with about 8,000 scouts from 34 countries participating and has been held every four years. This year, it will be held for 12 days from August 1st at the Saemangeum site adjacent to Haseo-myeon, Buan-gun, nationwide. It is expected to be the largest ever, with 43,000 participants from over 170 countries.
Five months ahead of the World Jamboree, the government plans to provide support through △assistance with entry and exit and transportation for overseas participants △safety management including natural disaster and crowd control △operation of cultural exchange programs △public communication.
First, the visa issuance process for overseas participants will be simplified to ensure no inconvenience upon entry. Transportation means will be arranged according to entry times, and transportation measures will be prepared to enable safe movement to the World Jamboree site with police support.

Safety measures have also been prepared to cope with natural disasters and large crowds. During major events expected to attract large crowds, such as the opening ceremony (August 2), closing ceremony (August 11), and the cultural exchange day featuring the K-POP concert, safety personnel and police officers will be deployed throughout the venue to support safe movement and viewing.
In preparation for heavy rain, 341 shelters such as nearby schools and gymnasiums have been arranged, and a Jamboree fire station will operate during the event to respond to fire incidents. Medical facilities within the site include one Jamboree hospital, five clinics, eight emergency medical stations, and six Listening Ear (mental health counseling and treatment) centers. Additionally, a business agreement has been signed with Wonkwang University Hospital, a regional emergency medical center in Jeonbuk Province, enabling rapid response to emergencies.
Furthermore, the government has prepared experience-centered activities such as pioneering crafts, forest rope games, traditional folk games, and the Hwarang Award for scouts and youth participants, along with natural, traditional, and cultural activities from 14 cities and counties in Jeonbuk. To increase public interest in the event, online and offline promotions will continue through TV, electronic billboards, and social networking services (SNS).
Minister Kim Hyun-sook, who serves as co-chair of the organizing committee, said, "To ensure a successful event, on the 23rd of last month, at the general meeting of the Jamboree organizing committee, the Minister of the Interior and Safety, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Kang Tae-seon, President of the Korea Scout Association, were additionally appointed as co-chairs." She added, "Going forward, excellent personnel will be dispatched from central government ministries and local governments, and private experts will also be expanded."
