Busan Port Authority (BPA) has finalized the name of its new eco-friendly port pilot boat (electric propulsion vessel) scheduled to launch this year as ‘e-Greenho’.
BPA selected the name ‘e-Greenho’ after a thorough review of a total of 807 submissions received during the ‘BPA Eco-Friendly Port Pilot Boat Naming Contest’ held in November last year.
‘e-Greenho’ is a compound name combining ‘e,’ the abbreviation for ‘electric’ propulsion, and ‘green,’ representing eco-friendliness, effectively encapsulating the meaning of an eco-friendly port pilot boat, and was chosen as the best entry.
BPA plans to use the winning name for the eco-friendly port pilot boat scheduled to launch this year.
‘e-Greenho’ is a 300-ton port pilot boat that adopts the ‘fixed all-battery type (ALL-BATTERY TYPE),’ powered entirely by batteries installed on the vessel, making it the first of its kind among domestic government vessels. The hull measures 40m in length, 11m in width, and 3.8m in depth, and it can carry 88 passengers in addition to the crew.
BPA announced that through this first domestic electric propulsion port pilot boat construction project, it will lead efforts to reduce fine dust and achieve carbon neutrality, contribute to securing domestic companies’ eco-friendly shipbuilding technology, and take the lead in realizing the social value of public enterprises.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “We thank all citizens who showed interest and participated in the eco-friendly port pilot boat naming contest,” and added, “We ask for your continued support and attention for e-Greenho, which will become the new face of Busan Port Authority and widely promote Busan Port.”
