Available from March 6
Gumi City, Book and Personnel Support
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk announced that the library at Korea Polytechnic University Gumi Campus will be open to local residents starting March 6, and in accordance with the mutual business agreement signed in February 2019, it will provide books and management personnel support.
Book support will be provided by Gumi City Central Library in the form of a circulating library with 1,000 books each in the first and second half of the year, and management personnel will be supported separately by Gumi City.
Books will be available for reading only without lending for the time being, and children's books and general books have been carefully selected so that families can enjoy reading together at the library. The personnel will be responsible for operating the reading room and maintaining the building environment.
Additionally, the spaces available for local residents include the first-floor lounge and the second-floor library (total 800㎡), consisting of the reading room (455.7㎡), three study rooms, and two group discussion rooms.
The operating hours for both the reading room and study rooms are Monday through Friday; the reading room is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the study rooms from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For reference, the library is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
With the Korea Polytechnic University Gumi Campus library opening to local residents, Gumi City expects this to be the first exemplary case of mutual growth between the university library and the local community, anticipating future activation.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho expressed his gratitude to Korea Polytechnic University for generously opening the reading room, study rooms, and lounge to local residents, and stated, “Going forward, Gumi City will make various efforts to ensure that local universities and residents can coexist and prosper together.”
