LS Electric Power Testing Technology Institute, Rising to 6th Place Worldwide with Generator Expansion

Expansion of Sectional Generator for Verifying Power Equipment Performance

LS Electric Power Testing Technology Institute (PT&T), a private power testing laboratory, is rising to become one of the top 6 testing institutes worldwide.

LS Electric announced on the 2nd that it recently expanded PT&T by adding one short-circuit generator necessary to verify the performance of power equipment in actual power systems. A short-circuit generator is a facility that simulates fault currents that can occur in real systems to test and evaluate the performance of power equipment such as circuit breakers and transformers.

PT&T previously owned one 2000MVA short-circuit generator and was recognized as a top 10 global testing institute. With this expansion securing a total capacity of 4000MVA, PT&T has risen to the world’s top 6 testing institutes alongside ABB, following Italy’s CESI (KEMA), Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Siemens, and Toshiba.

An LS Electric official stated, “PT&T has established itself as a global top 10 research institute by equipping the first private company short-circuit testing facility with a capacity of 2000MVA, along with high-voltage and reliability testing facilities. Since 2020, we have proactively pursued generator expansion, enabling us to actively respond to the rapidly increasing global demand for testing.”
