Orchestra di Original announced on the 2nd that it will hold 'Vienna Festa 2023,' marking the beautiful beginning of spring with music.
This concert features mid-career pianist Kim Jung-won, who has been active internationally centered in Vienna, and creative conductor Adriel Kim collaborating on Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1.
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 is a masterpiece that pianist Kim Jung-won is presenting after a long time, heralding the bright start of spring. It is a lively concerto that reflects the enthusiasm and hope of the young Beethoven who moved from Germany to Vienna, Austria. Beethoven himself named it the 'Great Concerto,' as it was a work of unprecedented scale at the time. Audiences can feel Beethoven's capabilities as a young pianist already gaining fame and his artistic leap beyond his era.
Arvo P?rt's 'Summa' is also a notable program. Following film music maestro John Williams, Arvo P?rt holds a unique position as one of the most performed contemporary composers. He moved to Vienna in 1980 and gained recognition in the Western world. 'Summa' embodies the essence of P?rt's invented compositional technique 'tintinnabuli (bell ringing),' offering audiences healing and a profound aesthetic experience through its unique minimalism that approaches the deep spirituality of the human inner self.
The ballet 'The Bride of Corea,' with a libretto by Heinrich Regel and music composed by Josef Bayer, will also be performed. This work, which had disappeared from history, was rediscovered in 2012, and after score restoration, it premiered again in 2021 performed by Orchestra di Original. It was performed at the Vienna State Opera Theater in 1897 and captivated Europe, enjoying a five-year long run. The ballet music, blending lively waltzes and polkas, best captures the Viennese tradition, fully conveying the atmosphere of late 19th-century Vienna to the audience.
A representative of Orchestra di Original said, "Through the meeting of pianist Kim Jung-won and conductor Adriel Kim, who best understand Vienna's musical DNA, we plan to present Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, which Beethoven himself named the 'Great Concerto.' This concert is a stage showcasing all of Vienna's music spanning centuries, from the Viennese Classical period to contemporary minimalism."
