The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 2nd that it will continue the ‘Art Gifted Education Support Project’ this year to support talented youth who find it difficult to fully dedicate themselves to art studies due to financial difficulties. This year, a total of 260 students will be admitted, and the project will be operated by ▲Hanyang University Art Gifted Education Center (Fine Arts), ▲Konkuk University Art Gifted Education Center (Music), and ▲Sookmyung Women’s University Art Gifted Education Center (Music).
Seoul’s ‘Art Gifted Education Support Project’ selects and supports students with artistic talent from families below the median income through ▲document screening ▲aptitude tests in the major field ▲practical skill evaluation ▲and in-depth interviews to ensure fair selection.
Since its launch in 2008 as the first of its kind among local governments nationwide, Seoul’s ‘Art Gifted Education’ support project has supported a total of 2,583 art gifted students who have demonstrated outstanding artistic talent over the past 16 years. Among them, 185 students advanced to domestic and international art schools (middle and high schools for the arts, and art universities), and 444 students have won awards at various domestic and international competitions and music contests.
This year, fine arts education will be entrusted to the Hanyang University Art Gifted Education Center. Applications will be accepted from the 6th to the 20th of this month.
Music education will be entrusted to and operated by ▲Konkuk University Music Gifted Education Center and ▲Sookmyung Women’s University Music Gifted Education Center. Konkuk University Music Gifted Education Center will recruit 100 art gifted students from the 13th to the 29th, and Sookmyung Women’s University Music Gifted Education Center will recruit 55 art gifted students from the 21st to the 4th of next month.
Choi Kyung-joo, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Culture Headquarters, said, “Seoul’s ‘Art Gifted Education Support Project’ is a meaningful initiative that gives wings to the dreams of talented youth,” adding, “We will continue to carry out projects that support disadvantaged groups such as low-income families through culture and arts to ensure that everyone can enjoy culture and arts without exclusion and actively help them realize their dreams.”
