Road Occupancy Permits Can Now Be Easily Checked via Mobile Devices

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Begins Development of Mobile Road Occupancy Permit Issuance Service
Pilot Operation in Second Half of the Year

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 2nd that it plans to develop a 'Mobile Road Occupancy Permit Issuance Service' and pilot operate it from the second half of the year.

Under the current Road Act, when occupying a road for construction or other purposes, permission must be obtained from the road management authority, which then issues a road occupancy permit to the applicant.

However, since most road management authorities print the permit directly and send it by mail through a post office visit, there has been a time gap between the actual permit issuance and the receipt of the permit. In many cases, mail is lost, causing inconvenience for applicants who need to visit the road management authority in person in urgent situations.

To resolve these inconveniences, the Ministry plans to develop a service that creates the road occupancy permit in electronic document form and automatically sends it to the applicant via mobile.

Additionally, if the permit sent via mobile is not viewed within a certain period, a second delivery will be made by registered mail.

With the introduction of this service, the time required for postal delivery can be saved, allowing applicants to quickly and easily check the approval status of their occupancy application in a mobile environment.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport began developing the mobile permit issuance function in March this year and plans to pilot it on general national roads from the second half of the year, and will encourage local governments that require the mobile permit function to utilize it in the future.

Lee Yong-wook, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry, said, "Through the mobile road occupancy permit issuance service, we expect to enhance applicant convenience while also improving the efficiency of road occupancy operations."
