Promotion of Infrastructure Construction Project for RE100 Industrial Complex Development
Education on 'Renewable Energy Policy and RE100 Status' Topics
As major countries around the world focus on climate change and prioritize eco-friendly policies, global companies are also joining the campaign ‘RE100,’ which aims to switch all electricity to renewable energy.
RE100 stands for ‘Renewable Electricity 100%’ and is a voluntary private campaign with the goal of companies covering 100% of their electricity consumption with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
To strengthen the capabilities of the hydrogen energy industry and its employees, Pohang City conducted a training session on the 27th with the theme "Renewable Energy Policy and RE100 Status."
Pohang City is also keeping pace with this trend by promoting various projects to support the distribution and promotion of new and renewable energy, including support for solar power and solar heat in the housing and building sectors. Alongside this, projects such as LED lighting for low-income households and welfare facilities and replacement of high-efficiency heating and cooling systems are being carried out to improve energy efficiency.
Furthermore, to establish an RE100 industrial complex based on new and renewable energy in the future, the city plans to focus on companies located in the industrial complex by promoting rooftop solar power replacement projects, smart energy platform projects, and energy self-sufficiency infrastructure construction projects, thereby laying the foundation for achieving carbon neutrality and attracting global companies.
In addition, Pohang City conducted a training session on the 27th under the theme ‘New and Renewable Energy Policy and RE100 Status’ to strengthen the capabilities of the hydrogen energy industry and its employees.
At the training, a practitioner from the New and Renewable Energy division of the Korea Energy Agency’s Daegu-Gyeongbuk headquarters was invited to focus on topics such as ▲new and renewable energy distribution and loan projects ▲mandatory installation system for public institutions ▲overview and progress of global RE100 ▲domestic RE usage verification system and progress.
The Korea Energy Agency is a public institution that promotes rational and efficient energy use, the distribution and promotion of new and renewable energy, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through industrial revitalization, aiming to build a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Jung Gyu-deok, head of the Hydrogen Energy Industry Division, said, “It was a valuable time to communicate about the current status of new and renewable energy promotion and future policy directions,” adding, “As large-scale global investments and renewable energy targets of various countries are rising, we will devote all efforts to creating a carbon-neutral city based on greenhouse gas reduction through the distribution of renewable energy such as solar and wind power.”
