Government Holds 104th Anniversary Ceremony of the March 1st Movement

'Again, Republic of Korea! A New Nation of the People' Theme

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it will hold the "104th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Commemoration Ceremony" on the 1st at the Yu Gwan-sun Memorial Hall under the theme "Again, Republic of Korea! A New Nation of the People."


The theme of this ceremony, "Again, Republic of Korea! A New Nation of the People," reflects the spirit of the March 1st Movement of the ancestors and carries the meaning of uniting the strength of all citizens to build Korea into a new nation.

The ceremony will proceed in the order of opening declaration, national ceremony, screening of the theme video, reading of the Declaration of Independence, awarding of independence patriots, commemorative speech, commemorative performance, singing of the March 1st Movement song, and three cheers of "Manse."


The reading of the Declaration of Independence consists of a pre-recorded video reading at March 1st Movement historic sites and a live reading at the ceremony venue on the day.


On the occasion of the March 1st Movement Day, 104 people were selected as recipients of the independence patriot awards. At the ceremony, the awards will be presented directly to five descendants of independence patriots, including Kim Jong-sun, a descendant of the late Kim Eon-bae, who was active as a member of the Daehan Shinmindan Volunteer Corps recruiting members and military funds in the Hamgyeong Province area from August 1920.


Following the award ceremony, commemorative performances expressing the desire for independence, "1919 Torch of Independence" and "March With Me," will be held consecutively.


The three cheers of "Manse" will be led by the descendants of three independence patriots: the late Kim Sang-ok, the late Kwon Jun, and the late Jang Jin-hong, reminding everyone of the spirit of the March 1st Manse Movement of the ancestors.


Meanwhile, to enhance the spirit of patriotism and pride in the nation on the occasion of the March 1st Movement Day, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety promoted the display of the national flag at institutions and homes through websites of various organizations and local government newsletters, carrying out the "Nation-Loving Taegeukgi Display Campaign."
