The two local governments have been in mutual contact and exchange for sisterhood since July last year, and after a working-level meeting in November of the same year, this sisterhood agreement was reached. Going forward, the two local governments will cooperate in exchange activities and mutual development in various fields such as culture, tourism, sports, and agriculture and fisheries based on mutual trust.

Governor Gong Yeong-min of Goheung-gun and Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon City, who participated in the signing ceremony, supported the successful establishment of the Hometown Love Donation System and the development of sister cities by cross-donating hometown love donations, adding significance to the sisterhood.

In his welcoming speech, Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon City said, “I consider the sisterhood with Goheung-gun, where pristine nature and advanced industries harmonize, very meaningful, and let us work together to ensure that the two regions maintain a close and substantial cooperative relationship.”

In response, Governor Gong Yeong-min of Goheung-gun said, “I am honored that today Goheung-gun and Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province have formed a sisterhood bond,” adding, “Chuncheon City, the center of Gangwon Province and a representative lakeside city of Korea, and Goheung-gun, known for its beautiful natural scenery, clean agricultural and marine products, as well as advanced industries such as aerospace and smart farms, will grow together as optimal partners and strive to become a model case of urban-rural coexistence.”

A county official stated, “Taking this sisterhood as an opportunity, we plan to gradually expand the scope of cooperation not only in promoting agricultural and marine products but also in attracting tourists, sports goodwill exchanges, youth cultural exploration, and exchanges between private organizations.”

Meanwhile, starting with Chuncheon City, the first sisterhood established during the 8th local government administration, Goheung-gun plans to expand its exchange network with other local governments such as Jeju City and Jungnang-gu, Seoul.
