Green Bio Promising Venture Company Attraction and Development Accelerated
'Support Center' Designated as Industry in Animal Pharmaceutical Field
On the 28th, Pohang City announced that the 'Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center' has been designated as the 'Animal Pharmaceutical Industry Hub,' one of the six major hubs of the Green Bio industry by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
On February 16, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the 'Green Bio Industry Promotion Strategy' to accelerate the industrialization of the domestic Green Bio industry, aiming to actively foster the Green Bio industry as a new industry in the agricultural and food sectors.
The promotion strategy includes three main initiatives: ▲promotion of Green Bio industrialization ▲development of innovative technologies and workforce training ▲creation of a Green Bio industry ecosystem, along with ten key tasks.
The Green Bio industry is a new industry that applies biotechnology to agricultural biological resources to create added value across agriculture and related upstream and downstream industries. As part of this promotion strategy, six major industrial hubs (tentatively called Green Bio Hubs) have been designated in fields such as animal pharmaceuticals, microorganisms, seeds, insects, natural products, and food materials, with plans to strengthen corporate support centered around these hubs.
In particular, Pohang’s Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center (overall operation led by Kim Do-young), designated as the animal pharmaceutical hub, was completed in March last year. It is the first facility in Korea established for the production of animal green vaccines (medicines produced using plants or plant cells as production platforms) and corporate support. Five promising venture companies in the Green Bio field, including BioApp, JinCell Biotech, ToolGen, BioCom, and Seaweed, have moved in.

Additionally, Pohang City was selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ 'Animal Green Bio Pharmaceutical Industrialization Hub Project' this year. From 2023 to 2025, the city plans to further develop industrial infrastructure for the production of animal green bio pharmaceuticals and corporate support, including ▲establishment of a GMP plant factory for zoonotic diseases ▲expansion of production equipment for pet pharmaceuticals.
Through the 'Green Bio Venture Campus' project selected last year, Pohang City plans to provide comprehensive support for prototype development, marketing, and research facilities targeting venture companies utilizing promising Green Bio technologies.
The Green Bio Venture Campus is currently being established in three locations: Pohang, Iksan, and Pyeongchang.
The Pohang Green Bio Venture Campus is a facility designed to nurture venture companies in six major fields: animal pharmaceuticals, microorganisms, seeds, insects, natural products, and food materials. It offers infrastructure such as corporate accommodation facilities, convenience facilities, research equipment, and prototype production equipment, as well as support for communication and cooperation with investment institutions, corporate support and startup support specialized organizations, and large corporations to foster company growth.
The city expects that the Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center and the Green Bio Venture Campus will gain further momentum in attracting and nurturing promising Green Bio venture companies centered in Pohang, in line with the Green Bio industry promotion strategy announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “We will actively support the growth of promising venture companies and job creation by utilizing Pohang’s Green Bio industrial infrastructure such as the Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center and the Green Bio Venture Campus. We will also do our best to secure core technologies in the Green Bio field, discover government projects, and attract companies in the future.”
