Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will intensively crack down on the indiscriminate distribution of illegal flyers known as 'Shirt Room' throughout the district until March 17.
The Shirt Room is a new type of entertainment establishment named after female hostesses wearing shirts while entertaining customers. Since the end of last year, over 400 complaints have been received about related flyers being distributed mainly around Gongdeok-dong, Dohwa-dong, and Seogyo-dong areas.
In particular, as a large number of illegal flyers have been habitually distributed around schools, the district has been conducting cleanup of illegal advertisements for youth-harmful establishments through the operation of crackdown teams and a collection reward system in each neighborhood.
Despite these measures, as the flyer distribution areas expanded throughout Mapo-gu, the district has decided to take stronger measures to eradicate illegal activities.
During the intensive crackdown period, illegal advertisements including Shirt Room flyers will be more strictly controlled, focusing on habitual illegal flyer distribution areas and crowded places such as Mapo Station and Hapjeong Station areas. The plan includes imposing fines up to 5 million KRW and filing charges.
Especially on the 28th, starting from 8 PM, a joint crackdown team led by the Mayor of Mapo-gu will conduct a campaign to crack down on and eradicate illegal advertisements. Target areas include the vicinity of Mapo Station and Mapo Food Culture Street.
This crackdown will be jointly conducted by Mapo-gu and Mapo Police Station. Two crackdown teams of about 20 members will patrol, educate, and enforce regulations against illegal mobile advertisements while simultaneously conducting a campaign to eradicate illegal advertisements.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Our district is strongly conducting inspections on room cafes, youth-harmful establishments, and illegal advertisements. We will also focus on cracking down on Shirt Room illegal flyers that have spread throughout Mapo, aiming to improve the youth-harmful environment and create a pleasant walking environment.”
Meanwhile, through the cleanup of illegal advertisements for youth-harmful establishments, the district has filed charges against three distributors of Shirt Room flyers and collected over 10,000 flyers.
